Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Marianne' is a cultivated form of Dieffenbachia seguine, an evergreen aroid grown for its broad, pale-centred foliage. The species is native to tropical Central and South America, where it occurs in warm, humid forest environments with consistent moisture and filtered light. This selection maintains the upright, cane-forming habit typical of the genus, producing thick stems that support large, elliptic leaves with a light green to cream central zone bordered by deeper green margins. As the plant matures and leaf size increases, the contrast between the central area and the margins commonly becomes more pronounced, with older foliage showing clearer pattern definition than juvenile growth.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright, indirect light is preferred. Direct sun can cause leaf scorch, while low light may reduce pattern definition.
- Water: Water when the upper few centimetres of the potting mix begin to dry. Avoid waterlogging, as consistently wet conditions can lead to root and stem rot.
- Media: A free-draining indoor plant mix with added coarse material such as perlite or bark is suitable.
- Fertiliser: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at a reduced strength during the warmer months, spacing applications every 3 to 4 weeks.
- Temperature: Performs best between 18 and 28 °C. Cold draughts and temperatures below 15 °C may cause leaf damage.
- Repotting: Repot every 1 to 2 years, or when roots become crowded, ideally during periods of active growth.

- This plant is known to be toxic
