These tiny peanuts are all the rage with collectors! Unfortunately this means that they are threatened by poaching in the wild. Our Conophytum are seed grown right here in California and NEVER poached from the wild.
Wondering why a plant that looks like a tiny button costs almost $30? The reason is that these are super slow growing - the specimens we have in the shop are about 4 years old already! That's four years of specialized care by a horticulturalist in a nursery before it made its way into our shop!
Light: Conophytum ratum thrives in bright light. Place in a windowsill that gets at least some direct sunlight.
Water: Water sparingly. The key to Conophytum care is allowing the soil to completely dry out between waterings. In the winter, during their dormant period, reduce watering significantly, only moistening the soil every few weeks or even less frequently, depending on humidity levels. Plant may appear shriveled. It's not dead!! Don't freak out. Just let it rest :)
Soil: Use a well-draining gritty mix. A combination of coarse sand, perlite, and potting soil works well to ensure proper drainage and prevent root rot.
Temperature: These plants prefer cooler temperatures, ideally between 50°F and 70°F (10°C to 21°C). They should be protected from extreme heat and frost, which can be damaging.
Repotting: Repot every few years or as needed in the late summer or early fall. Be gentle when repotting as the roots are delicate.
Feeding: Fertilize sparingly, if at all. Use a diluted low-nitrogen succulent fertilizer once at the beginning of its active growing season
